Rainbows4children (R4C) (https://www.rainbows4children.org/), a Swiss and UK foundation was set up in memory of Nicolas Robinson, the son of the founder, Max Robinson.

About the project

Rainbows4children is built around following fundamentals: • Break the cycle of poverty by giving disadvantaged children access to top quality education. • 100% of all money used for the children with zero administration costs. • Organised in a fully transparent way, accountable to our donors. • Provide feedback to donors on all projects. • Sustainable projects, eventually maintained and funded locally. • Provide assistance regardless of politics or religion. • Provide equal opportunities for girls and boys. • Provide a reproducible model to share with others who aim for academic excellence and sustainable, environmentally-friendly buildings. With the support of the Tigray Disabled Veterans’ Association (TDVA), an Ethiopian NGO, R4C founded the Nicolas Robinson School (NRS) in 2005, in Mekele, Tigrai state, to educate the children of disabled war veterans of the Ethiopian civil war. The NRS provides education for disadvantaged children in Ethiopia. 100% of donations go directly to the educational projects. This is made possible because all the administration work is carried out entirely by unpaid volunteers. The logo of the school is: “Uplifting Ethiopia”, and its vision is to be the most admired school in Ethiopia, fulfilling each child's unique potential through excellence in education. The school mission is to provide top quality academic and vocational education for any child from the most disadvantaged backgrounds especially those whose parents have disabilities, to provide this education without any entry restrictions of any kind and to develop young individuals who will break the cycle of poverty in their communities and their country. R4C and the NRS are committed to educating the whole child and to create a community of caring students, educators, parents, and staff.

Testimonials

Young girl in grade 10 (about 17 years old)

I am not prone to anger, but the one issue that constantly pushes my buttons is gender equality. What could be more maddening for a capable person willing to earn every win with dedication than being told you're less, Constantly being robbed of your personhood. The life and struggles of women is something that stays close to my heart at all times, Especially women of Tigray. What form of violence and abuse is there that they haven't endured? The poor economy, limited education, poor justice system making it impossible to feel safe or protected, and a highly patriarchal culture stopping women even from dreaming of a future for themselves was a reality I lived in.However a genocidal war was something I never thought I would have to go through in the 21st century. One thing I know for sure, when things go bad in a society, it goes worse for women. What I witnessed happening to women in the last 6 years is too horrific to mention here. Every experience I went through and every story I have heard fueled my anger but it also multiplied my dedication to become an example and lead a change, what most of my fellow Tigrian women couldn't. I have planned to create an environment that strives to create an awareness of equality and women's rights in society to make everyone part of the movement to a better life for the future of women and the generation as a whole. My main focus being encouraging women's education for literacy is the biggest weapon against injustice and societal failures. I am deeply grateful I was raised in a family that accepted gender equality. They have been very supportive throughout my journey. It is because of their empowerment that I stand confident in who I am. However I'm also aware of how my relative freedom is a responsibility as much as it is a privilege and a personal grit. Empowering women would be a turning point in the world’s growth and transformation. It is my vision to make a change and make sure that future Tigrian women will be raised with an empowering father, supporting brother and a mother who exercises her own rights as well
